A Brief History of Mussar

Mussar refers to a spiritual perspective and also to a discipline of transformative practices.”

The goal of Mussar practice is the refinement of character traits - or Middot. We look at how we handle the various middot like anger, humility, gratitude - to name a few and how they are helping or hindering us in our journey to be the best we can be with ourselves and others.

Our Facilitator:  Shelley Karrel

Programming and Communications Director for Congregation Schara Tzedeck.

 She has been studying and practicing and facilitating Mussar courses for over 15 years.

  Shelley’s passion for Jewish learning and programming is evident by the vast number of programs and event for which she is responsible.

Shelley sees i her own life the changes that have come about by focusing on the practice of Mussar on a daily basis.

She is originally from Nova Scotia and has lived in BC for 18 years.
